Issued for full-time academic study in the U.S.
Requires an I-20 from the admitting school.
Allows on-campus work and limited Curricular Practical Training.
Most CAAPID Advanced Standing programs issue I-20s for F-1.
J-1 Exchange Visitor
For sponsored programs
Used for residency and exchange programs.
Requires a DS-2019 from a designated sponsor.
May include a two-year home residency requirement.
Some residency programs prefer or require J-1 status.
