With more than 80,000 patient visits per year and over 400 students and residents, the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine (CU SDM) is an active member of the clinical and educational Anschutz Medical Campus community in Aurora, CO—a community that you are invited to join. The CU SDM Advanced Standing International Student Program (ISP) offers qualified graduates of international dental programs the opportunity to earn a Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree at CU SDM. Graduates of this two-year, accredited D.D.S. program may take any state or regional board, and thus, are eligible for licensure and practice within the United States. The program consists of didactic courses supported by some online resources, preclinical simulated courses provided within CU SDM and clinical courses involving direct patient care in the school’s clinic and community-based urban and rural health clinics.

- Applicants must pass Parts I and 2 of the NBDE or the Integrated National Board Dental Exam (INBDE).
TOEFL instructions
- All applicants must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). CU SDM ISP does not make any exceptions for this criteria even for those who are citizens or those who did schooling in an English-speaking country. Beginning January 21, 2026, TOEFL iBT score reports will feature a new 1–6 scale, in half-point increments. If you are submitting a TOEFL score taken on or after January 21, 2026, our minimum requirement will be 5 on the new 1–6 scale. We will continue to accept TOEFL iBT scores taken prior to January 21, 2026, provided the score is within two years. For scores dated prior to January 21, 2026, our minimum requirement will remain 94.
