The Dental International Student (DIS) Program at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (TUSDM) began in 1956 to provide foreign-trained dentists with the education and experience required to practice dentistry in the United States. The program consists of five semesters of coursework and clinical experience, including innovative courses in implantology and geriatric dentistry. Upon completion of the program, students receive a D.M.D. degree and are eligible for licensure to practice dentistry in the United States.

- To be considered for admission to the Program requires a passing score of the Integrated National Board Dental Examination (INBDE) or NBDE Part I and II. Submit official INBDE/NBDE scores to CAAPID. If not submitted with the CAAPID application, an official report must be sent to denadmissionsdis@tufts.edu.
TOEFL instructions
- All applicants are required to submit an official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score through the CAAPID application. Additionally, please upload the full TOEFL report into the Program Documents section in your application. Following the new TOEFL scoring scale of 1-6, Tufts will accept a minimum of 4.5-5
- as long as the overall score equates to 90 or above

- All applicants--regardless of native language, country of citizenship -are required to take the TOEFL to be considered for the Dental International Student program.
- No exceptions are made to this requirement.
- To have your scores sent to Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, use institution code 3902 and department code 38 on the TOEFL registration form.
- TOEFL exams taken more than two years before the application deadline are not valid. Exams must have been completed after

Letters of evaluation
- A minimum of three letters of recommendation are required and should be submitted directly to CAAPID. The letters must be written in
- English
- on official letterhead and contain their signature and contact information. Please be advised that all submitted letters of recommendation are subject to verification from the Office of Admissions.

- From your dental school-a faculty member or dean where you earned your dental degree
- From an employer- ideally in the dental field, with at least one year of experience under their supervision
- From a volunteer organization
- *All letters must be at least two paragraphs in length.
This program does not publish a tuition figure in the CAAPID directory, and we refuse to print a guess next to a number as consequential as this one. Tuition, instrument kits, fees and living costs in Boston change every cycle.
