After the interviewing process, up to 10 candidates will be selected for the Howard University College of Dentistry Advanced Standing Program. During the summer session, May through July, each candidate will be evaluated and calibrated in various clinical procedures, utilizing the preclinical manikins in the simulation laboratory. If unsuccessful, the acceptance will be rescinded, based on the performance and the recommendation of the chairs, the admissions committee and the dean. If the candidate’s performance is deemed satisfactory, he/she will be admitted to the third year (D3) class and will be included in all D3 and D4 programs. The program may extend beyond two years depending on the student’s ability to meet all graduation requirements.

- Program requires passage of NBDE Parts I and II or Integrated NDBE (INDBE). Must have been taken and passed within the last five years (for NBDE Parts I and II) of application date to be considered for admission.
- NBDE Parts I and II or INDBE must be completed, scored and passed prior to application deadline. Manually submit scores via ADEA CAAPID.
- If you are scheduled for an interview, you will be required to bring official NBDE scores.

TOEFL instructions
- Applicants whose dental degree is International are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), with a total score of 100 or more to be considered. (No waiver will be given.)
- Must submit TOEFL scores via ADEA CAAPID®; Only internet-based TOEFL scores are accepted. (No paper-based scores.)
- Note: If you are scheduled for an interview, you will be required to bring official TOEFL score report.
Letters of evaluation
- Program prefers one Letter of Evaluation to come from the dean of the dental school from which the applicant graduated.
