The D.M.D. Advanced Standing program at Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) is a 24-month course of study for internationally-educated dentists, leading to a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree. Students are foreign nationals, U.S. citizens, and U.S. permanent residents. D.M.D. Advanced Standing students pursue highly intensive clinical training while simultaneously following a rigorous academic curriculum. Students capitalize on the location of the dental school in the heart of Boston through community outreach and research opportunities. GSDM conducts a holistic review of all aspects of candidates’ applications and selects candidates for admission based on the following: Applicants who meet the above criteria are given priority. Additional considerations for admission include research experience, teaching experience, and specialty training. The Committee invites selected applicants to an interview, which is required for admission but does not guarantee acceptance. - Passage of the INBDE or NBDE Parts 1 and 2 is required. Preference is given to applicants who pass the INBDE or the NBDE Parts 1 and 2 on the first attempt.
- Submit official results directly from the
- American Dental Association
- to ADEA CAAPID.
- INBDE or NBDE results should not be sent to Boston University GSDM Admissions.
- The ADAT is not required.
TOEFL instructions
- English Language Proficiency, TOEFL iBT®
- All applicants must submit official TOEFL iBT® scores to ADEA CAAPID® (institution B451) directly from the
- Educational Testing Service
- (ETS).
- TOEFL scores must be no older than two years from the date an application is submitted to ADEA CAAPID®.
- The TOEFL iBT® Home and Test Center editions are accepted. TOEFL “MyBest Score” and TOEFL® Essentials™ or other English language assessments are not considered.
- Applicants must score a minimum of 90 on the TOEFL iBT by January 21, 2026, or a minimum of 4.5 after January 21, 2026.
- Applicants who do not meet the minimum score will not be considered for admission.
Letters of evaluation
- Three (3) Letters of Evaluation are required
- Evaluators should submit letters electronically through Letters by Liaison, the ADEA CAAPID recommenders portal.
- If an evaluator cannot access the Letters by Liaison portal, the applicant may upload the letter in the ADEA CAAPID Boston University Program Materials section.
- Letters must be written on the evaluator's official organization letterhead and must be dated and signed by the evaluator.
- Dental school dean's letter (1)
- A letter of evaluation from your dental school dean is required.
- A letter of evaluation from your dental school dean is required. If a dean's evaluation is not available, a letter from a faculty member at the dental school may be substituted as an alternative.
- If a dental school faculty letter is not available, a letter from a clinical supervisor may be used as a substitute.
This program does not publish a tuition figure in the CAAPID directory, and we refuse to print a guess next to a number as consequential as this one. Tuition, instrument kits, fees and living costs in Boston change every cycle.
